FAQs

Q: Can I buy a smaller package and then upgrade to larger packages?

A: Yes, the purchase price of a smaller package can be used to upgrade to a larger package. For instance, if you buy the 1/8 collection (19 pieces) and then want to upgrade to the full collection, $195 will be credited to the $895 price of the full collection.

Q: How is the music delivered?

A: For individual tunes, the music is delivered by download. For the bundled packages, choice of music is by consultation and the music is delivered electronically. Physical masters are also availble for a small fee.

Q: Who may use the music, once it is purchased?

A: Pieces are purchased and licensed to an individual for use at a specific institution. The license is valid for all time. The individual may be a Cantor, Rabbi, Soloist, Accompanist, Songleader etc. The music is not transferrable for use at any other institution. If purchased with institution funds, the music must remain within the institution. Home use of the material for enjoyment is without restriction.

Q: Can the music be copied once it is purchased?

A: Yes, the licenses for unlimited use grant the purchaser the right to make copies of the music as needed for use at the licensed institution, but not for distribution elsewhere, even for educational purposes.

Q: How is the license enacted for a copy of music?

A: When music is purchased, the purchaser will need to write their name on the copy of the music as well as the institution for which it was intended. It may not be used elsewhere. For purchased collections, the information will be entered before the music is shipped by e-mail and in a physical master copy.

Q: Can the music be used in a concert?

A: Use of the music in a concert setting or at a convention is not covered under the first license unless the concert is at the original institution.  If it is to be used at another concert, or at an institution where it is not licensed, it must be purchased for that event.

Q: Can the music be re-arranged and re-recorded?

A: The music cannot be re-arranged or re-recorded without express permission and another license must be negotiated.  The music is registered through ASCAP who manage performance rights.

Q: Can I make a T'filah band arrangement of the music?

A: T'filah band arrangments cannot be made without permission. In most cases, an arrangement will be requested, and made available for purchase.

Q: Can the music be streamed on the internet, on web feeds or on You Tube?

A: The use of the music on the internet in any form requires express permission and the purchase of another license for broadcast. The music is intended for use in worship. If a web-cast is part of the worship experience and the music is to be used, a modest license fee will be negotiated. If the music is used without permission, an invoice for use will be issued.

Q: What does the ver.6/22/16 date mean at the end of the piece?

A: The date at the end of the piece indicates the last date that piece was edited. Over time, small errors may be detected and corrected, and in some instances a piece could be revised based on user feedback (expanded etc.). Based on purchase records, if a piece is updated, the new version will be forwarded without charge.

Q: Are there recordings of the pieces?

A: We are currently working on recordings of the pieces. They will be available for purchase once they are posted.

Q: What is the underwriter category for the project?

A: Underwriters are being sought to fund continuation of the work, including making recordings and facilitating the creation of more Jewish music.
